Guest Host for the August Mixed Media Challenge at FUL

Hi everyone..

I am so excited to have been asked to host the Mixed Media Challenge in the Flying Unicorn Forum for August. This is one of my favorite challenges as I love playing with different mediums.

For my project I chose to alter some  Creative Embellishments Chipboard.

I started with the Steampunk Frame and Steampunk Butterfly  and the light switch cover from my craft room. I covered all 3 pieces with black gesso and let dry.

I then grabbed my Shimmerz - Deep Blue Sea Vibez, Jeni B Bleu Vibez, Palm Reader Vibez and Bamboo Leaf Spritz.

I started with the lighter blue, then lighter green then dark blue and darker green.. Layer upon layer of color.

While the pieces were drying I grabbed 3 flowers and covered them in black gesso. Dried with a heat gun and then added some silks glaze to them. I also cutoff the green leaves from the back of them.

Once all the elements were dry I attached the Butterfly to the frame with heavy gel.  I then picked a few Prima metal and resin gear embellishments and glued them on with Heavy Gel. And again covered them with black gesso.

Using the same process of color I sprayed all 4 mists in layers. Drying this time in between colors.

Once it was dried completely I added more of the silks used on the flowers... It really darkened spots up and gave it the completed look I was hoping to achieve.

This pic shows it in place on my wall.

This is the finished piece along with all supplies I used.

I hope my piece has inspired you to create trying some new techniques and products. Please join us over on the Flying Unicorn Forum for this and many other challenges.

If you have any questions please send me a message.

If you have time please show me some love on this and any of my posts you like. Comments are greatly appreciated

Until next time happy creating :)

Finnabair Inspired project!

Hello all my crafty friends..

Yes it has been a while since posting. Been dealing with a few personal  issues and crafting has taken a back seat for too long.. I have managed a few projects the past couple of weeks and want to share a piece I did the other day.

I love Finnabair and her style.. Her creations are out of this world amazing. Her products glorious!

After seeing a project created by Lia Walsh on facebook I knew it was time to sit down and have a go at a canvas. So I sat down with a great step by step that Lia had graciously messaged to me and came up with a creation that I absolutely LOVE!!

So in love with this process and can't wait to start a larger piece.

I took step by step photos as well so I could share my process with you.

First I smothered a 6x6 canvas in molding paste and put on an assortment of embellishments. Leftover flowers, chipboard, a resin mannequin a little metal and a new resin from The Relics & Artifacts Collection by  Sandra Evertson.

I let it all dry overnight then covered the whole thing with Black Gesso. I sprayed  the entire canvas with LSG Golden Doubloons. Then brushed on Silks Acrylic Glaze in Autumn Leaf and Nutmeg.

Then added some Finnabair Copper Glass Glitter to give it a little sparkle..added a metal Journey tag and called it done!

I hope you  like my share. Please leave me some blog love.

Thanks for taing the time to view my post today

Until next time
hugs,
Shannon :)

Happy Monday

Happy Monday Crafty Friends...

Hope everyone had a great weekend and that you were able to spend a little time crafting..

I was able to create 8 cards and 2 coordinating boxes for them. Today I will show you one of them.

I have so many old paper collections and embellishments I thought it was a good way to use them up. Take something old and make it new again.

The papers and embellies for the most part are We are Memory Keepers. I used assorted ephemera from a different company (cannot remember which one) and of course some Prima flowers.

This first pic is the box lid -  torn paper and inked edges. All sides are covered in the same paper

This second card seems out of place so will do another and switch it out

I will take pics of the second project later this week and post them for you to see.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week as you prepare for The Easter Bunnies arrival !

Hugs

Creative Embellishments March Challenge

Hello Crafty friends,

I'm here with another project created for the March challenge over at Creative Embellishments.

The inspiration picture this month is full of color and possibility. And being green is one of my favorites it was an easy choice to do this one.

I have actually completed 3 projects for this challenge.. Cuz I loved it that much!

march1

My projects of choice are usually canvas so no big surprise that I have done 2. Then finished off with a card.

I love getting my hands dirty with gesso, inks and sprays.

This first canvas is all about color and texture. Pieces of paper layered to begin, covered in gesso, then Shimmerz sprays with a stencil, CE Butterfly Flourish chippie behind a spray of flowers.
(maybe too many flowers as I've almost hidden the flourish) :(

The second Canvas I kept fairly clean.. I focused on the cluster of flowers with beaded pearls and resin accents. CE Love Chippie and some splatters of Shimmerz to bring it all together.

Here are a couple of close ups..

And last but not least a card using paper from my stash, a beautiful CE Flourish and of course some flowers.

I hope you enjoy this post and that my creations have inspired you to create today!

Until next time,

Cardabilities Challenge #116

Good Morning Crafty Friends..

I am here today with a card I made for the Cardabilities #116 Challenge..  I am not one to use hearts a lot so this was definitely a challenge for me.

I absolutely love the sketches they provide on the blog. Great inspiration for us all to interpret in a way that  features our own creative individuality.

 Here is  Sketch #116

And here is my completed card...

Can't say I'm completely satisfied with how this turned out. But its always good to push ourselves, trying new things and stepping out of a comfort zone.

I hope my card has inspired you to create something today.. Head on over to the blog to view all of the amazing creations using this sketch.

Until next time,
Happy crafting
